ABN AMRO

ABN AMRO has been involved with the ABN AMRO Open in Rotterdam Ahoy since 1974. That means that the 2023 edition of this event will mark our 50th year as a sponsor, making it the longest-running sponsorship of the ATP Tour. Richard Krajicek first joined the tournament in the 80’s as a ball kid and later played in the top ten of the world for years. It is also the dream of all the passionate ball boys and -girls who will be on the tournament this year. Richard’s greatest victory was Wimbledon in 1996. He has won the ABN AMRO Open twice: in 1995 and 1997. With his appointment as tournament director in 2004, he helped to further grow the ABN AMRO Open internationally.

ABN AMRO Open Wheelchair Tournament

This year marks the 15th edition of the wheelchair tennis tournament for men, and we are also organising a wheelchair tennis tournament for women for the first time. The twelve best male and eight best female players in international wheelchair tennis will be in Rotterdam to showcase the very best of this special sport. Olympic gold medallist Esther Vergeer is the expert, enthusiastic director of this tournament, in which both singles and doubles titles are up for grabs.

Sponsoring as an accelerator

Through sponsoring we want to bring dreams and goals closer faster, for everyone. Our commitment to this idea is reflected in sports, in the arts, and in a wide range of sustainable and socially inclusive activities. Our efforts go far beyond funding too: our conviction can clearly be seen in how we facilitate coaching, networking and knowledge transfer. We contribute to the development of ambitious altruists and people looking to improve the world, for example through the Young Impact organisation and our ABN AMRO World Winners Fund. We develop sports programmes like the Club of Tomorrow, aimed at making field hockey clubs more sustainable and inclusive. We help museums become more accessible to a wide audience, which is especially important in these times of shrinking public funding for the arts, forcing cultural institutions to become more financially independent. And we do a lot more too.

ABN AMRO and Talent

At ABN AMRO, we believe that the world is at its best when people get the chance to control their own life, development and growth. That’s why we give people and institutions who want to achieve something a helping hand in discovering their talent and realizing their ambitions. We want to stimulate people to make the best of it. Talent development is a recurring theme in our sponsor activities.

In the area of sports, ABN AMRO is active in tennis, hockey and sports for the disabled. We are also active as a sponsor of the youth of Ajax. In the area of art and culture, we are among other things the main sponsor of the annual Uitmarkt, the Dutch Design Week and museum the Hermitage.

Richard Krajicek Foundation & Fonds Gehandicaptensport

In addition to stimulating top talent, ABN AMRO wants to provide broader support to (tennis) sports in the Netherlands. That’s why we have been involved with the Krajicek Foundation for years: a foundation which works to encourage underprivileged children to exercise and take up sports. We are also partners of Fonds Gehandicaptensport, which works to make sports structurally available for everyone with a physical disability. Crucial initiatives, we believe, because sports should be available for everyone.
